Glenfield College

High spec laptops to help relieve pressure on existing resources, and ensure students get the learning opportunities they deserve regardless of the subjects they choose.

The school has a BYOD policy, which has recently been extended to Year 9 and 10 students. These students typically use economical lower specification devices, with needs outside this being met through on-site computer rooms. With a 15% increase in student enrollment this year, these computer rooms are under pressure and often fully booked. The goal is to relieve pressure on computer rooms by providing 60 devices in total; 30 high-spec devices for Art & Design students, capable of running graphic design software, along with another 30 devices for the English & Social Studies departments for in-class work and for students to borrow in order to complete NCEA assignments. This will ensure that students have access to the devices they need to succeed in their chosen subject areas, and give teachers the tools they need to create an engaging learning environment.

Birkenhead College

High spec laptops that help address digital inequality in classrooms and set learners up for success.

Currently, the school has a BYOD policy, but by senior year students who take a technical course require a relatively powerful device to run the software supplied. Some students have difficulty arranging this and can then limit their choices of subjects and success in that subject. The goal is to provide a number of laptops: 12 Macs and 39 Windows laptops with either 8gb or 16gb ram for the classrooms for music, media studies, digital photography and design, electronics and robotics in Years’ 11, 12 and 13. These computers will be used by students both in the classroom and be able to be taken home to allow them greater opportunities to achieve success in these subjects. Increased access to these devices will further close the gap of digital inequality in the classroom.

The goal is to provide a number of laptops with a 2ghz processor and 16GB ram for the classrooms for photography and design to further close the gap of digital inequality in the classroom. Access to a laptop for every student, no exceptions.

Currently, the school has a BYOD policy with around 5% of students not being able to bring a device. Their goal is that every student has access to their own laptop in the classroom. With their current funding, they provide most of the devices, but they currently need another 20 laptops with internet access to meet their goal.

We are looking for a class set of High spec laptops that help address digital inequality in classrooms and set learners up for success.

Currently, the school has a BYOD policy, but many junior and senior students who take technical creative courses require a relatively powerful device to run the software supplied specifically Adobe Software. Some students have difficulty arranging this and can then limit their choices of subjects and success in that subject. The goal is to provide a number of laptops: 46 to be used in Visual Arts classes across the department but most specifically Photography and Design. The earlier classes have accessibility to learning specific programmes; data has shown that the achievement in their senior NCEA assessments in Visual Arts is greatly improved with increased Digital Literacy.

Many of our former-refugee students do not have access to a personal device, which makes keeping up with schoolwork a real challenge. While our school provides a limited number of loan devices each day to the general school population, demand is high and not all students are able to get one.

With support from The Laptop Drop, we are hoping to create a pool of internet-capable devices that are available to be borrowed by our refugee students for daily use or for longer periods, depending on their individual situation.

These laptops and Chromebooks will give our learners the opportunity to complete assignments, access online resources, and build their digital skills with confidence.

This project will make a big difference to the educational journey of our refugee students as they settle into life in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Our goal is to reduce the digital divide at our school by seeking donations of devices to support students who lack access to personal laptops. While most students bring their own devices in our BYOD environment, many cannot afford one—creating unequal learning conditions. This issue is visible daily in our classrooms, with several students unable to complete their work efficiently. In junior classes, it's estimated that around 50% of students do not have a personal device. We are reaching out to socially responsible organisations like yours to request donations of working laptops. Your support would help us create lasting, equitable change for our fellow students. We would be grateful for any devices that meet the following minimum requirements: CPU: Intel Core i3 Intel Core i5 Intel Core i7 AMD Ryzen 3 AMD Ryzen 5 AMD Ryzen 7 RAM (Memory): 4GB 8GB 16GB Storage: 128GB 256GB 512GB or more. Receiving even one device will change a student’s life in high school. We would greatly appreciate any assistance your organization provides.

Whangārei Boys' High School

Like many schools, we are BYOD at Whangārei Boys' High School and unfortunately we have several students who cannot afford laptops. At our school of around 1450 boys, we have around 100 boys without laptops. In my classes, there are 10 without laptops. Our learning programs require them to be able to access Writer's Toolbox, Google Classroom and they need to be able to use the NZQA assessment platforms for CAAs and other external assessments. Some students will be taking more technical courses and therefore need slightly higher spec laptops but the majority will be fine with relatively low spec laptops. I would hate for students to be making their subject selection based on what their parents can afford for them to do and ideally all students would have laptops high-spec enough to make all subject options viable.

Mission Heights Junior College

Mission Heights Junior College serves the needs of students from age 11 to 15 (Year 7-10). While we supply chromebooks to some students already, our hardship budget cannot cope with the demand. One of our priorities is to remove obstacles to our students’ learning and so any low specification lap top would be of benefit to our whānau. 20 more devices would be invaluable which would be distributed across our four Whānau or schools within a school.
